explain的基本意思是“解釋,說明”,指把對方不知道、不理解的事以易懂的方式加以說明,使其清楚、明白。

explain既可用作及物動詞,也可用作不及物動詞。用作及物動詞時,賓語可以是名詞、代詞,也可以是帶疑問詞的動詞不定式或that從句,還可以是反身代詞,說明自己的意思、動機或行為。

“向某人說明某事”不用explain sb sth 結構,可用explain sth to sb 表示。

explain可引出直接引語。
