elephant 也可說成 get a look /
sight at the elephant，意思是“開眼界”、“長見識”。
“看到了大象”就等于“看到了世界”，就是“見過世面了”？因為“see the elephant”這句俚語誕生的年代，只有在非洲和亞洲才能看到大象，對當時的人來說能看見大象就真的是相當于是見過世面的了，算是開了眼界了。就這樣，“see the elephant”就成了“見見世面”的意思了。
例：The boy came and saw the elephant in the city.男孩到城里來大開了眼界。

see red 源于斗牛，公牛看到紅色就會發(fā)怒。因此，see red意思是“怒不可遏”、“火冒三丈”。
