heave既可用作不及物動(dòng)詞,也可用作及物動(dòng)詞。用作及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),接名詞或代詞作賓語; 用作不及物動(dòng)詞時(shí)常與at, on, up等詞連用。

heave的過去式和過去分詞有兩種形式:heaved或hove。通常情況下都用heaved,但在習(xí)語heave in〔into〕 sight〔view〕(出現(xiàn))和heave to(頂風(fēng)停船)中,其過去式和過去分詞只能用hove。
