another等于是an加other，因此不能說the another desk ， that another desk等，里面的another都該改作other；

another指“另外的任何一個”，加上原本的那個，心里應至少有三個，才有任何一個的可能，因此不適用于只有兩個時，如不能說I have two brothers, one is twenty, and another is fifteen ，應用the other代替；

相似短語的不同意思：another and better pen指“另外好些的一枝筆”，another better pen指“另外一枝好些的筆”，（已提過的一枝或多枝好些的筆以外的一枝）another, better pen同another and better pen同義，逗號相當于and；

another后可接數(shù)字和復數(shù)形式的名詞，如another five hours；

one another和each other均指“相互，彼此”。 The five boys help one another/each other.這五個男孩互相幫助彼此。

one another不能作主語。不能說We know what one another wants,能說We know each what the other wants或Each of us knows what the other wantsc。若有三或三個以上的人，應說We know

each what the others want或Each of us knows what the others want；

one another不可以與every one同用，都表達了“互相，每個”的意思，如不能說Every one of them looked at one another and smiled，應把every one替換成All；

當other用在名詞前時，不可用復數(shù)形式others。不用在名詞前，單用時，可用復數(shù)形式。通常情況下，others只用來指代前面已經(jīng)提過的名詞，不過有一個例外是，人們習慣用(the) others 指 (the) other people。 Where are the other photos? Have you got any others?

another用作形容詞的基本意思是“(又)另一個的”,主要指同類中又多一(個)的或與前述不同的另一個的,在句中只用作定語。another后常接單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞,但當復數(shù)名詞前有基數(shù)詞或few時,也可用another修飾。

another這個形容詞是由an和other兩詞合綴而成,因此它不能加冠詞或其他限定性的形容詞。
