Ragged clothing infers poverty. 衣衫襤褸意味著貧困。

infer的基本意思是“推斷,推知”,多指讀者、聽者或旁觀者在所見所聞的事物中推論出某事的內(nèi)涵。引申則表示“意味著”。

infer可用作及物動詞,也可用作不及物動詞。用作及物動詞時可接名詞或從句作賓語。

infer賓語后接介詞from表示“從…推斷出”,賓語是從句時, from短語可以提前。

infer的過去式、過去分詞均為inferred。
