一般說來，躺在床上的習慣用語是in bed，但是如果說躺在某張床上，可用介詞in或者on，例：on/in this bed或on/in the same bed；

go to bed是習慣用語，意思就是“睡覺”“就寢”。bed前不加任何指示代詞，go to the bed，go to my bed等均屬不正確表達方式；

值得注意的是，這里的bed意思不僅指“床，即使睡地上，也可以說go to bed；

bed的很多短語中都不含the，如take to bed，put to bed，get into bed，lie in bed和out of bed等。

bed的基本意思是“床,床鋪”,包括床架、床墊、毯子、床單、枕頭等。也可指某種東西的“底盤”“底座”等,還可指房屋的“地基”。可引申指“房事”,在日常口語或在公開場合可作委婉語使用。

bed可用于表示抽象概念,這時是不可數(shù)名詞,無單復數(shù)之分,也不與不定冠詞連用。

bed與介詞in, into, out of等連用時通常不用冠詞或其他限定詞；與介詞on連用時通常要有冠詞。

“食宿”應說bed and board,而不可說board and bed。
