teacher的意思是“教師,教員”,指傳授知識和教誨人們知書明理的人,不限于課堂或學校里的授課教師。是可數(shù)名詞。

漢語中常可把姓氏直接加在“老師”之前,表示稱謂,如高老師、李老師等,英語中卻不能說：teacher Gao, teacher Li,而要說Mr. Gao,Miss Li或Mrs. Li。
