用作不及物動詞 (vi.)We cannot despair of humanity, since we are ourselves human beings. 身為人類,我們不能對人性失望。
despair的基本意思是“絕望”,引申可指“使人絕望的人〔事物〕”。in despair意為“絕望地”,可用作表語,也可用作狀語。
v.(動詞)despair的基本意思是“對…感到失望或絕望”,這種“失望”可指“徹底失望或絕望”,口氣很強,有時有“悲痛”的含義; 它是不及物動詞,常與of連用,表示“對…失望”。
despair后面如需跟非謂語動詞,須跟of+doing,不可跟動詞不定式。
