compel的基本意思是“迫使,使不得不…”,常指利用權(quán)力、力量等迫使某人做不想做的事情或采取某種行動,有時也有別無辦法的含義。

compel的主語通常是法律、行為及一組條件等,也可以是人; compel的賓語一般是人,有時雖不是人,但也是與人或人的行為有關(guān)的事物。

compel后常接以動詞不定式充當(dāng)補足語的復(fù)合賓語。
