eye的基本意思是“眼睛”,當(dāng)其指身體器官之一的“眼睛”時(shí), eye指“一只眼睛”, eyes指“兩只或多只眼睛”,用于與“眼睛”有關(guān)的“目光”指表情時(shí),須用復(fù)數(shù)形式。而在用于“觀察力、看問(wèn)題的眼光、注意力”等抽象意義時(shí),則須使用復(fù)數(shù)形式。作“觀點(diǎn)”“見(jiàn)解”解時(shí)總是用復(fù)數(shù)形式。

eye可引申為“孔,針眼,風(fēng)眼,扣眼,環(huán)”,是可數(shù)名詞。

eye有時(shí)還可用作定語(yǔ)修飾其他名詞。

在習(xí)語(yǔ)中,用eye或eyes一般是固定的,須認(rèn)真體會(huì)其含義是具體的,抑或是抽象的。

eye偶爾也用作動(dòng)詞,意思是“定睛地看,盯著”。例如:He eyed her up and down.他上上下下地打量她。The child was eyeing the chocolate cake.孩子正盯著那塊巧克力蛋糕。
