forbid的基本意思是禁止某人進入某地、用某物或做某事。可用于權(quán)威人士(如家長、主人、醫(yī)生)發(fā)布的命令,也可用于所處的情況要求絕對禁止。
forbid是及物動詞,接名詞、代詞、動名詞或that從句作賓語。that從句中謂語動詞須用虛擬式。forbid后面作賓語的動名詞可帶物主代詞或代〔名〕詞賓格,表示動名詞的邏輯主語。
forbid在表示“禁止進入某地”或“禁止用某物”時可接雙賓語,以表示某地的名詞或use作直接賓語,其間接賓語可轉(zhuǎn)化為介詞to的賓語。
forbid在表示“禁止某人做某事”時可接以動詞不定式充當(dāng)補足語的復(fù)合賓語。
forbid的過去式是forbade或forbad,過去分詞是forbidden。
forbid后可接以動詞不定式作補語的復(fù)合賓語,不能接from＋動名詞的結(jié)構(gòu)。例如: 醫(yī)生不讓我吸煙。誤:The doctor forbids me from smoking.正:The doctor forbids me to smoke.
forbid不能用在祈使句里,祈使句里須用tell。例如: 叫他們不要在草坪上走。誤:Forbid them not to walk on the grass.正:Tell them not to walk on the grass.
God forbid (that)...后面的從句中謂語動詞常用虛擬式。例如:God forbid that anything awful should have happened to her.但愿可怕的事情不要發(fā)生在她身上。
forbid的過去分詞forbidden在句中可用作定語。例如:Eve ate the forbidden fruit.夏娃偷食了禁果。
