determine后常加不定式，有時加on，upon和動名詞。 He has determined to propose a new method.他決定要提議個新方法。

determined是過去時，表示“當時決定”，had determined表示“那時已經(jīng)決定”，was determined表示“有決心的”。要注意前面兩個都表示的是“一時的”，不可以與for a long time等表示時間段的詞連用；

determine后可接that從句中，注意使用虛擬語氣。 He has determined that his son shall have a good education.他決定要給兒子一個好的教育。

determine的基本意思是確定事物的界限或范圍,指經(jīng)調(diào)查或認真思考后明確地判斷事物的真?zhèn)巍⑹欠?或確定問題所涉及的范圍、性質(zhì)、內(nèi)容等,即“作出決定”或“使…決定”。凡是被決定的事而絕無疑問者大都用determine來表示。determine還含有決定后加以堅持的含義。常用于法律或科技方面等。引申可作“限定; 制定”解。

determine還可表示對某事物產(chǎn)生決定性的“影響”或“決定”。

determine可用作不及物動詞,也可用作及物動詞。用作及物動詞時,可接名詞、代詞、動詞不定式(而不是動名詞)或表示命令、請求的從句作賓語,還可接以“to be+ n. ”或動詞不定式充當補足語的復合賓語。

determine后接that從句時,作“決定”解,從句中的謂語動詞用虛擬式。作“斷定”解,從句中的謂語動詞用陳述式。

determine接介詞against可表示“使某人決定不做某事”; 接介詞on〔upon〕可表示“決心…,下決心…”。

determine的過去分詞determined常可用作形容詞,在句中作表語、定語或狀語。
