prevail的基本意思是“說(shuō)服”,這種說(shuō)服既有說(shuō)理含義,又有感情因素,強(qiáng)調(diào)面臨對(duì)方強(qiáng)烈反對(duì)或有充分論據(jù)的挑戰(zhàn)。引申可表示“盛行”“流行”“獲勝”。

prevail一般只用作不及物動(dòng)詞,常與 against 〔over〕連用表示“打敗,戰(zhàn)勝”“壓倒”; 與on〔upon〕連用表示“說(shuō)服”“勸告”。

prevail可用于進(jìn)行體,但如果有still修飾則不能用于進(jìn)行體。
