After three of postdoctoral study at UCSD, he went to Germany in 1978 to work at the Max-Planck-Institute for Aeronomy (now MPI for Solar System Research). 在加大擔(dān)任三年博士后研究員，便到德國(guó)的馬普高空大氣研究所(今改名為馬普太陽(yáng)系研究所)擔(dān)任研究員(1978-1998)。

One of these missions, a satellite called Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere, or AIM, was launched in April to study so-called noctilucent clouds (depicted above), the highest layer of clouds in the atmosphere. 任務(wù)其一，今年4月該局發(fā)射了一顆名為“中層大氣高空冰探測(cè)”（簡(jiǎn)稱AIM）的衛(wèi)星以研究所謂的夜光云（如上圖所示）－這是大氣層中最高處的云層。
