alive屬于表語形容詞，不能說very alive，只能說much alive或very much alive（后者比前者使用更普遍），等同于alive的定語形容詞是living或live；

the greatest poet alive和the greatest living poet表達方式均可，意思也相同，也可說the greatest poet living，不過不常用，最好是說the greatest poet now living。

alive的基本意思是“活著”,指人〔動物〕還沒有死,也可指某人〔動物〕“有活力,活潑”或某事〔物〕“存在著,繼續(xù)不斷”。

alive在句中主要用作表語,也可用作賓語補足語。一般不用在名詞前作定語,偶爾用作定語時只能用在被修飾的名詞之后。

alive不能用very修飾,但可以說much alive或very much alive。用very much比用much普遍。

alive后可跟介詞with,也可接to,意思不同,前者的意思是“充滿”; 后者的意思是“覺察到”“對…都一樣”“感覺到”。

alive不用于比較等級。

當alive有修飾語的時候也可用作前置定語。例如：Tom is a really alive student.湯姆是一個真正有生氣的學生。
