I affirm that what he said is true. 我斷言他所說的是實(shí)情。

They affirmed that the girl did quite a bit of reading. 他們斷言這個(gè)女孩子讀了不少書。

I can affirm that no one will lose their job. 我可以肯定，誰都不會(huì)丟掉工作。

affirm的基本意思是根據(jù)事實(shí)、本人經(jīng)歷或?qū)δ呈碌拇_信而作出肯定的陳述,即“斷言”。

affirm作“斷言; 證實(shí)”解時(shí)多用作及物動(dòng)詞,不用于進(jìn)行時(shí)態(tài),可直接接賓語,但多數(shù)情況下接that/wh-從句。affirm還可接“to be n./adj. ”充當(dāng)賓語補(bǔ)足語。

affirm偶爾也可用作不及物動(dòng)詞,接介詞to引起的短語表示證實(shí)的內(nèi)容。
