1、cut to the
chase 切入重點(diǎn) / 直接了當(dāng)chase (v.) / (n.) 是「追逐」的意思,cut to the chase 則是在說(shuō)趕快切入重點(diǎn)。I only have a few
minutes, let’s cut to the chase.我只有幾分鐘的時(shí)間,我們趕快切入重點(diǎn)。
A:
Yesterday, I felt sick and
thought to
myself, “What’s
wrong with me?”, and then… 我昨天覺(jué)得很不舒服,想說(shuō):「天啊!我到底怎么了?」,然后…B: Oh! Just cut to the chase! 趕快說(shuō)重點(diǎn)!A: I’m
pregnant! 我懷孕了!
2、hit the sack 睡覺(jué)去sack (n.) 是指粗布袋,也有「床」的意思,所以 hit the sack 就是上床睡覺(jué)的意思!I have a big
meeting tomorrow morning. I’m
gonna hit the sack now.我明天早上有一個(gè)很重要的會(huì)要開(kāi)。我先去睡了。hit the hay 也同樣表達(dá)要去睡覺(jué)了。hay (n.) 是干草的意思。
3、up in the air 懸而未決up in the air 原意是在空中,引申為一件事情還沒(méi)有著落,問(wèn)題還沒(méi)有解決。

getting nervous.下禮拜就是我的婚禮了,但還有好多事項(xiàng)還懸而未決,我好緊張啊!love is in the air 字面上的意思是「愛(ài)在空中蔓延」,用來(lái)形容兩個(gè)人的甜蜜,或是當(dāng)你身邊很多人開(kāi)始談戀愛(ài),也可以說(shuō):Oh, love is in the air!
4、lose your
touch 不如以往touch (n.) 在這邊當(dāng)名詞,是指「觸;碰」的意思。lose your touch 是說(shuō)你不再擁有某個(gè)能力,或是某方面的表現(xiàn)不如以往了。
People have said that the
author has lost his touch. His
books are getting dull.大家都說(shuō)那位作家江郎才盡了。他的書(shū)越來(lái)越無(wú)聊。lose
someone’s touch 跟 lose touch with (失聯(lián))不一樣喔!I’ve lost touch with my
classmates.我跟我同學(xué)都失聯(lián)了。
5、ring a bell 對(duì)…有印象ring (v.) 當(dāng)動(dòng)詞可能是「敲」或是「打電話」的意思。ring a bell 原意是「敲鐘」,但引申為「對(duì)….有印象」或是「想起…」。A: Do you know Emily Wang?B: Nope, doesn’t ring a bell.A:妳知道艾蜜莉王是誰(shuí)嗎?B: 不知道耶,我對(duì)這名字沒(méi)什么印象。

weather 不舒服under the weather ? 在天氣的下面?原來(lái)這句話是用來(lái)形容一個(gè)人不舒服。也可以拿來(lái)形容喝醉了。She’s been under the weather for
quite a few days. Are you sure she’s okay?她已經(jīng)不舒服一陣子了,你確定她沒(méi)事嗎?
7、jump the gun 操之過(guò)急jump the gun 也是典型的每個(gè)字都懂,但實(shí)際意思卻天差地遠(yuǎn)的詞。這邊的 jump the gun 象是在鳴槍之前就先行一步了,引申為操之過(guò)急,或是過(guò)早行動(dòng)。

8、blow someone away 令人驚艷blow someone away 不是吹走的意思喔!而是指一件事令人驚艷或是震懾。She blew the

award ceremony.他在頒獎(jiǎng)典禮的表演令全場(chǎng)觀眾驚艷。
9、Give me a five! 要是理解成 “你是要我給你5塊錢(qián)么?”,這就尷尬啦! Give me a five,其實(shí),在英語(yǔ)中是指與某人擊掌表示高興之意。
10、Tell me
about it!
如果有人跟你說(shuō),"Tell me about it!"你會(huì)心想:不是都和你說(shuō)了么,沒(méi)聽(tīng)明白么?其實(shí),歪果仁在說(shuō)Tell me about it 的時(shí)候,如果重音放在tell上,實(shí)際上就是在說(shuō):“對(duì)啊,我同意你說(shuō)的”或者“沒(méi)錯(cuò),我也這么認(rèn)為”,而不是讓你繼續(xù)說(shuō)下去。A:
