criticize的基本意思是“評論”,指識別某人或某物的優(yōu)缺點,有時還含有非難或挑剔的意味。
criticize既可用作不及物動詞,也可用作及物動詞。用作及物動詞時,常接人、理論、路線等作賓語,很少接“懶惰”“急躁”等作賓語。
criticize的賓語后可接介詞for表示原因,接介詞as表示性質或內容。
criticize在英式英語中也可寫作criticise。
說“批評某人的粗心”時,不能直接以“粗心”作criticize的賓語,而應接“某人”作其賓語,用介詞for引出批評的內容。例如: 老師批評了他的粗枝大葉作風。誤:The teacher criticized his carelessness.正:The teacher criticized him for care- lessness.
criticize后不能接that從句。例如: 他認為這個故事不吸引人。誤:He criticized that the story lacked interest.正:He criticized the story for lacking interest.
