other用在the或形容詞性物主代詞之后時,與單數(shù)名詞連用表示“(兩個中的)另一個”; 與復數(shù)名詞連用表示某一集體中“其余的,剩下的(人或物)”。

other用作代詞時常用于復數(shù)形式,表示“其他的,別的或另外的人〔事物〕”; others若用于the或表示所屬關系的限定詞后,則表示“其余的人〔事物〕”,即把剩下的全部包括在內。

other也可用于單數(shù)形式,表示“(兩者中的)另一個(人或事物)”,常與the連用。
