suffice的基本意思是“(使)滿足”“足夠…之需要”。既可用作不及物動(dòng)詞,也可用作及物動(dòng)詞。用作及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),其主語常常是物,賓語一般是人; 用作不及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),常與介詞for連用,表示“足夠…之用〔需要〕”。
suffice可用于被動(dòng)結(jié)構(gòu),常表示“對(食物等的)滿足”。
suffice還常用于Suffice it (to say) that...結(jié)構(gòu)中,意為“只要說…就夠了”。
