They affirmed that the girl did quite a bit of reading. 他們斷言這個女孩子讀了不少書。

I can affirm that no one will lose their job. 我可以肯定，誰都不會丟掉工作。

We are not entitled to affirm or negate anything. 我們沒有任何權(quán)利和資格去肯定或否定任何一件事情。

affirm的基本意思是根據(jù)事實、本人經(jīng)歷或?qū)δ呈碌拇_信而作出肯定的陳述,即“斷言”。

affirm作“斷言; 證實”解時多用作及物動詞,不用于進行時態(tài),可直接接賓語,但多數(shù)情況下接that/wh-從句。affirm還可接“to be n./adj. ”充當(dāng)賓語補足語。

affirm偶爾也可用作不及物動詞,接介詞to引起的短語表示證實的內(nèi)容。
