引導(dǎo)the reason的定語從句,多數(shù)語法學家認為應(yīng)是that,而章振邦和張道真兩位先生卻只給出why,實際上這兩種都是可以的,許多語法書或辭書都有收錄,故可放心使用。
傳統(tǒng)的語法規(guī)則認為the reason...is because...句型是錯誤的,應(yīng)將because改為that。但是,近些年來, the reason...is because...不僅在口語中,而且書面語也用得頗多,甚至得到了某些詞典的認可。例如:The real reason people no longer wanted to be secretaries was because the pay was so low.人們不想當秘書的真正原因是工資太低。不過為了穩(wěn)妥些,還是少用because為好。
v.(動詞)reason的基本意思是根據(jù)事實作出判斷或推理,強調(diào)連續(xù)的邏輯思考,以某個假設(shè)的前提、某個確定的數(shù)據(jù)或證據(jù)開始,作出推論。引申可指“爭辯”。
reason既可用作及物動詞,也可用作不及物動詞。用作及物動詞時,通常接that從句作賓語。
reason可接介詞into表示“說服某人做某事”; 接out of表示“說服某人放棄某事”; 接out表示“推斷出”; 接with表示“說服,規(guī)勸”。
